The African civet inhabits the savannahs and forests of South and central Africa, whereas the Indian civet is found in Nepal, Bangladesh, and Vietnam. These creatures secrete an odorous substance to mark their territory. Over time and when diluted, the initially strong and repulsive scent of civet secretion transforms into a pleasant aroma with animalistic-musk nuances. The collection of this secretion often involves keeping the animals in cages. Fortunately, in modern times, this scent is predominantly synthesized, including ours.
