Harsingar, also known as Parijat, Night Jasmine, or Arbor Tristis, is a plant with a variety of common names in different Indian languages and cultures. It’s commonly referred to as Parijat (पारिजात) in Sanskrit and Hindi, and Night Jasmine in English. In Bengali, it’s called Shefali (শেফালি).

It is commonly known as night-blooming jasmine, tree of sadness, tree of sorrow, coral jasmine, (in Burma/ Myanmar) /hsei’ hpalu:/, (in India) harsingar, (in Singapore) seri gading and (in India) parijata. Despite its common name, the species is not a “true jasmine” and not of the genus Jasminum
